Professional Experience
Site Reliability Engineering Intern
Site Reliability Engineering Intern
As a Site Reliability Engineering Intern at WSO2, I worked across the Asgardeo cloud identity platform, WSO2 Identity Server and ThunderID opensource identity platform, entering with no prior background in cloud infrastructure and building deep expertise in Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, and AWS from the ground up. My primary project was extending Asgardeo's existing Azure DevOps CI pipeline to add full AWS deployment support implementing ECR image publishing, PostgreSQL integration, and Secrets Manager configuration enabling a single pipeline to drive multi-cloud deployments. I was also given sole public release ownership of the WSO2 Identity Server 7.2 and 7.3 Helm charts, validating deployments across seven distinct Kubernetes environments. Beyond infrastructure delivery, I independently conducted an end-to-end STRIDE security threat model for Asgardeo's new cloud deployment architecture, identifying 23 threat vectors and developing 18 mitigation strategies that were presented to and fully approved by the Security Architecture Review Board. I designed and provisioned AWS infrastructure (VPC, EC2, MySQL) from scratch to support IS 7.2 testing, executed a database schema migration from MSSQL to PostgreSQL, and contributed an open-source TLS termination feature to WSO2 Thunder using the Kubernetes Gateway API and Envoy, which was merged to main. The internship gave me hands-on ownership of production-grade cloud-native identity infrastructure at a scale well beyond typical intern work.
Key Achievements
Extended Asgardeo's Azure DevOps CI pipeline from scratch to add full AWS deployment support, implementing AWS ECR image publishing, PostgreSQL integration, AWS Secrets Manager, and Terraform-provisioned infrastructure
Took sole public release ownership of the WSO2 Identity Server 7.2 and 7.3 Helm charts, validating deployments across seven Kubernetes environments: Minikube, Envoy, Azure AKS, AWS EKS, RKE2 on SUSE, OpenSearch, and OpenShift
Independently conducted an end-to-end STRIDE security threat model for Asgardeo's cloud deployment architecture, identifying 10 threat vectors across 5 categories and developing 13 mitigation strategies
Presented threat model and mitigation recommendations to the Security Architecture Review Board and Product Leadership, achieving 100% approval of all recommendations
Designed and provisioned AWS infrastructure (VPC, EC2, MySQL) from scratch to support WSO2 Identity Server 7.2 testing, including network architecture and security group configuration
Implemented Agent Identity datasource support in the WSO2 IS 7.2 Helm chart, enabling Helm values-driven database configuration for agent identity-based authentication
Executed a database schema migration from Microsoft SQL Server to PostgreSQL for the Asgardeo deployment unit, resolving schema and data type incompatibilities
Designed and implemented TLS termination support for WSO2 ThunderID using the Kubernetes Gateway API and Envoy, an open-source contribution merged to main
Built an automated accessibility (a11y) testing framework for WSO2 ThunderID Playwright E2E suite, integrating axe-core and delivering 26 test cases across core user flows
Sole-authored and published an open-source Ballerina connector for the PayPal Invoicing API v2 to Ballerina Central, covering the full invoice lifecycle and CI/CD test infrastructure
Deployed and debugged Asgardeo locally on Linux with PostgreSQL and an NGINX reverse proxy, resolving runtime and connectivity issues
Built React Native reference applications (CLI and Expo) integrated with the Asgardeo Authentication SDK, alongside customer-facing developer documentation
Wrote the complete unit test suite for an open-source AWS Secrets Manager extension for WSO2 Identity Server, migrating from PowerMock to Mockito and achieving an 85% pass rate
Delivered a full knowledge transfer session on infrastructure architecture, deployment flows, and operational troubleshooting
